New app release from Squarespace!

Squarespace just released a new app which automatically pulls images and brand elements from your website and makes it SUPER easy to create professional looking videos for your business.

You can then use these as reels or video posts on Instagram, they also seem great for paid advertising use too.

See my creation posted on Instagram here

Here’s what I liked:

  • Voice over and background music (although limited selection) was really easy for a sophisticated layered result.

  • It automatically brings in your logo and brand colors from your website

  • It's free, and quick to create a final product

  • Can choose different video ratios depending on where you plan on using the video

  • Easy to 'duplicate' the video and try out changes without starting from scratch

Here’s what I didn't like:

  • No option to resize or reposition text or images

  • Very limited fonts available

  • I didn't like the screenshot it automatically generated for me, so I uploaded my own

Steps to create this video for yourself:

Step 1:

Download the 'Squarespace Video Studio' app on your iOS App store, then open.

Step 2:

Tap the arrow in the bottom right corner.

Step 3:

Log into your Squarespace account and select the website you want to create the video content for.

Step 4:

The app will then pull info directly from your website to populate the brand setup screen.

Step 5:

Select a dark and light color, and a font (match as closely as possible to your website- there is a limited font choice unfortunately!).

Step 6:

What's the goal of your video? I chose 'Introduce'.

Step 7:

In the top right corner drop down menu choose the screen orientation you want you video to be- this will depend on where you plan to you the video. I chose 'Portrait' to use it an Instagram Reel.

Step 8:

From the list of template options I chose the first one 'I-35' (‘19 seconds long with 12 minutes of effort').

Step 9:

Autofill with your branding? Yes.

Step 10:

Now you can edit and tweak the video to get it looking and sounding just how you want it. At the bottom are the 1-10 pieces of the video, tap on one to edit that section (background music is #10 at the end- I chose ‘Sunday Vibes’). In the audio narration sections you could even choose a ‘smart voice’ to do the talking for you.

Duplicate, delete or re-order sections of the template by first opening one section, then hitting 'edit template' at the bottom of the screen.

Step 11:

Once you're happy with it, Save the video onto your device by tapping the 'upload' button in the top right corner.

Step 12:

Create a new Instagram Reel and upload the video straight into there! Done!

What I edited in my video:

  • I changed the background and text colors to different color palette combinations than what was auto filled.

  • I edited some of the written text to change 'us' language to 'me' because I'm a one woman show.

  • I uploaded my own photos and screenshot in place of what it auto filled.

  • I did my own voice over - it took A LOT of attempts to get it sounding right (I really don’t like the sound of my own voice!) but the app made it so easy to edit and try again without messing up any of the other pieces of the video.

  • I changed the background music.
